Minesweeper has survived every platform shift since 1990 because the loop underneath it is pure logic: read the numbers, deduce the mines, clear the board. On Android, Dustland Design’s Minesweeper - The Clean One is our favorite way to play it, a minimalist take with none of the clutter that plagues the genre. We wanted that same clean sweep without the install, so we built Sweep. It runs right here on this page, free, with a no-guess mode the classic never had.
Play Sweep now
Tap any square to start. Your first tap is always safe and always opens a patch of the board.
How to play
Tap a square to reveal it. Long-press to plant a flag, or hit the Flag mode button and every tap flags instead. On desktop, click to reveal, right-click to flag, and use the arrow keys with Enter and F if you prefer the keyboard.
Chording is in too: tap a revealed number that already has the right count of flags around it, and every remaining neighbor opens at once. It is the single biggest speed upgrade in minesweeper, and it works the same on touch and mouse.
The no-guess toggle is the flagship feature. Every board it deals is checked by a solver before you see it, so pure deduction always gets you to the end. Generation retries until it finds a solvable layout; in the rare case it hits its attempt limit, the board is honestly labeled “Classic board” so you know a guess might be needed. There is also a daily board, the same 16x16 puzzle for everyone each day, with a streak counter for clearing it.
Best times and your streak are saved on your device. Nothing leaves your browser.
How it compares to Minesweeper - The Clean One
Sweep keeps what makes The Clean One good: a quiet, readable board with no ads and no popups, first-tap safety, flag long-press, and proper chording. Three difficulty sizes cover the classic beginner-to-expert range, and our solver-checked no-guess mode goes a step further than most minesweeper apps by removing the 50/50 endgame coin flips entirely.
We also left things out on purpose. The Clean One ships a full set of color themes, custom board dimensions, pinch zoom on big boards, and the smooth feel that only a native app delivers. Sweep has one look and three fixed sizes plus the daily. If you play a board a day, this page is plenty.
If minesweeper is your commute game, install the real thing. The Clean One is free, works fully offline, tracks your stats over time, and its adjustable boards let you scale the challenge exactly to your level. Ours is the quick fix; Dustland Design’s app is the daily driver.

Frequently asked questions
Can I play minesweeper online for free?
Yes. Sweep, the game on this page, is completely free: no download, no signup, no ads, and no data collection. It runs in any modern browser on phone or desktop, and your best times stay in your browser’s local storage.
What does no-guess mode actually mean?
Classic minesweeper sometimes corners you into a pure 50/50 guess, usually right at the end. In no-guess mode, Sweep runs every generated board through a solver and only deals layouts that logic alone can finish. If generation ever hits its retry limit, the board is clearly labeled as classic instead of silently serving you a guessing game.
How does chording work?
When a revealed number already has exactly that many flags around it, tapping the number opens all its remaining neighbors in one move. Flag the two mines around a 2, tap the 2, and everything else nearby clears instantly. If one of your flags was wrong, the chord detonates the real mine, so it rewards accurate flagging.
Does it work offline?
Once loaded, the page makes zero further network requests, so it keeps working through connection drops. For a true offline game, install Minesweeper - The Clean One, which plays fully offline after install.
Is this Minesweeper - The Clean One?
No. Sweep is an original game we built, inspired by classic minesweeper and by what The Clean One gets right on Android. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Dustland Design in any way. The download links above point to the official app.
